Item Description
“18th Century Creole Mourning” 11 x 14 by Andrew LaMar Hopkins.
"This morning scene takes place in the late 18th century Spanish colonial period. A Creole Free woman of color in the latest morning fashions from Paris brings a flower wreath to a New Orleans step Tomb. The tomb depicted in the painting is a fancy step tomb. One of the earliest types of tombs built in Creole New Orleans. Most of these early types of step tombs were built around a coffin that was placed on the ground and the tomb constructed above it." - Andrew LaMar Hopkins
